British TV Tuesday

Don’t know if I can do a weekly round up, but let’s give it a try. I like British comedy and I subscribe to the British Comedy Guide newsletter. I’ll share some of the news here that interests me the most.

Simon Bird and Joe Thomas from teen sitcom The Inbetweeners have a new series commissioned for summer 2013. The sitcom, Chickens, is about 3 young men during World War I who stay home rather than fight in the war. Sky commissioned a 6 episode series after the show debuted its pilot on Channel 4’s Comedy Showcase.

Russell Tovey is crafting a sitcom pilot for ITV. Big Talk Productions is producing the pilot, titled The Job Lot, centers on a worker at a jobcentre, where the unemployed are looking for work. Tovey guest starred on the second episode of Sherlock series 2 and stars in the hilarious BBC sitcom Him & Her.

BBC3 is creating a comedy/reality hybrid show centering on dating. World Series of Dating is hosted by Rob Riggle playing a character named Doyle MacManus, an expert dater. The 8 episode series will observe dates as if they were American sporting events, complete with commentators and referees.

Comedy duo Cardinal Burns is set to take their jokes to television in a new sketch show to be aired in 2012. In this interview the duo explain their comedy experiences. They were most influenced by Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Human Giant, League of Gentlemen, and Big Train.
